What Is Yoga Alliance?
Founded in 1999, Yoga Alliance is the largest nonprofit association representing the yoga community, with over 7.000 Registered Yoga Schools (RYS) and more than 100.000 Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT) as of April 2020.
Registered Yoga Teacher, a title in the United States that designates a yoga teacher who has received a certain standard of yoga teacher training at a Registered Yoga School at the 200-, 300- and 500-hour levels.
The standards that they created are followed by yoga schools around the world.
How Many Hours Do You Need To Become A Yoga Instructor?
The first level of teacher training is a 200-hour level certification. Here you begin to develop your teaching skills as you practice yoga and journey through finding your own unique style.
The second level is a 300-hour training in which builds off of the framework of a 200-hour instructor certification. Here you’ll dive deeper into the philosophy behind yoga, advance adjustments and enhancements, and choose an area of specialization such as Yin, Restorative, Hatha etc
Once you’ve completed both a 200-hour and 300-hour yoga training you can register as a 500-hour RYT.
